Best bets this weekend in and around Durango

Best bets this weekend include Cirque de Los Muertos and the San Juan College Halloween Carnival.

The Durango Circus will present Cirque de Los Muertos at 6 p.m. Friday, Saturday, Nov. 1 and Nov. 2 at the Powerhouse Science Center, 1333 Camino del Rio.

The theme of the circus will be Day of the Dead, and attendees will be transported into the minds of the living and the realm of the dead. Performers of all ages will entertain guests with aerial feats, acrobatic engagements, unique characters, jugglers, stilt walkers and more.

This is a family-friendly event. Seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis. For elderly or disabled patrons, email info@daaacircus.com to reserve seats in advance. Children age 3 and younger may attend for free and must sit on the lap of a person older than 18.

The San Juan College Halloween Carnival will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Health and Human Performance Center Gym, 4601 College Blvd., Farmington.

Student clubs will provide games and activities for all ages. Tickets are 25 cents each, and games range from one to eight tickets.

People who wear a costume can enter the Halloween costume contest, which is open to all ages and includes a group/family category. Registration for the costume contest will begin at noon, and judging times will be listed at the door by the registration table. The costume contest is $1 or four tickets. Prizes will be offered in five categories and a group/family category.

“An Abandoned Circus” is the theme for the haunted house. Admission to the haunted house is free.
