Best bets this weekend in and around Durango

Best bets this weekend include the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic and the Fox Fire Farms Taste of Spring.

The 48th annual Iron Horse Bicycle Classic will take place this weekend with a variety of races, family-friendly activities and local events around Durango. Friday kicks off the festival with the Steamworks packet pickup party from 3 to 7 p.m. at Buckley Park, with a beer garden, food, live music, cycling vendors, e-bike demos and a Strider Bike Park for kids.

On Saturday morning, races begin at 7:30 a.m. at Buckley Park with the Coca Cola Road Race. The McDonald’s Citizens Tour departs at 8 a.m. from College Drive and Camino del Rio followed by the Quarter Horse at 8:15 a.m. Spectators can celebrate racers at the finish line from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Memorial Park in Silverton with beer and food, live music, vendors and the Alpine Bank Push Bike Park for kids.

The Iron Horse concludes Sunday with more races and the Downtown Durango Bike Festival from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Buckley Park. Races begin at 9 a.m. with the La Strada La Plata Gravel Ride, followed by the Kid’s Sprite Race, Moreheart Murphy Mountain Bike Race and the Durango Cyclery Cruzer Crit. Participants can celebrate the end of the festival with live music, a food and beer garden, vendors, e-bike demos and the Kids’ Village at Buckley Park.

Fox Fire Farms will host its annual festival, Taste of Spring, from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the farm, 5513 County Road 321, in Ignacio.

Attendees will enjoy the “fruits” of spring as Fox Fire Farms celebrates its wine room’s open season. The event will feature baby farm animals, live music, local artisans, tours of the historic one-room school house and the release of four new wines. This is a free, family-friendly event.
