Warning, warning … to locals and visitors. We lived in Durango for 30-plus years. We always drove trucks and always parked downtown to enjoy shopping and food establishments. We are here for the holidays and parked on Seventh Street as we wanted do some “touristing.”
We returned back to our truck only to have a ticket on our windshield. Of course, we figured maybe our meter had expired but that was not the case. Our violation was “not wholly in the space.” Nope, we were fine, in between the lines. We drove to the office to ask why we got a ticket. Her answer was, “our tires must have been touching a line.” She showed me the picture and we did not touch the line but our back mudflat stuck out. We were pulled all the way into our spot. We drive a short bed, not a dually. I asked when the parking rules changed for Durango? She said they have always been these rules. I replied, that we had never received a ticket in the 30-plus years parking here. She replied, “Well, I guess the citation officer was not doing their job!”
Whatever happened to the “Howdy Partner” tickets? Instead, the city of Durango has once again made visiting downtown less appealing for so many folks. I feel so bad for the retailers on Main, as I am sure they are seeing a decline in revenue. Her suggestion was to take up two spaces and park sideways! I am sure that would make folks happy.
