Justin Nickerson, a freshman at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, is raising funds to perform at Carnegie Hall with the CMU choir.
Nickerson started playing the violin at the age of 5. He is now studying music education at CMU, playing flute in the marching band and singing in the choir.
"It's been 13 years since I picked up that first violin, and I am now a freshman in college, studying to become like the people who always had the greatest impacts on my life; my music teachers," Nickerson wrote in his GoFundMe page.
"This year, I am getting a chance to fulfill that dream from all those years ago. My choir is being offered an opportunity to travel to New York City and perform Mozart's Requiem in Carnegie Hall, but we have to pay our own way."
Nickerson said he's paid the first installment of the trip but is asking for funds for his second payment.
