BHS alum to help guide FLC volleyball

Hochanadel will aid mom from bench

Gabriella Hochanadel was announced last week as Fort Lewis College's new assistant volleyball coach.

Say who?

Oh wait just a second. It's THAT Gabriella, and she's back in La Plata County.

Married in December to former Adams State University track-and-field athlete Joe Hochanadel, the former Gabriella Rifilato, of Bayfield High School, North Idaho College and Adams State University successes, will replace former assistant Temple Levings. She'll now work aside head coach-and mother-Kelley Rifilato.

"I am very excited to be part of the Fort Lewis family," Hochanadel said in a FLC press release. "I grew up a Skyhawks fan and I'm thrilled to pursue my coaching career in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference."

Levings had resigned from her assistant's role in January, after FLC went 8-18 overall (5-13 RMAC) in 2014. Hochanadel graduated from ASU last May, before landing her first college-level coaching job as a Neosho County Community College assistant in Chanute, Kan.

While under Asya Herron, she also helped with the Panthers' recruiting, game/statistical analysis, travel, strength and conditioning methods, and was even a fitness class instructor and mathematics tutor to boot.

"Gabriella will be an integral part of our coaching staff," Rifilato said in the release. "She has a clear understanding of my offensive and defensive schemes. Her setting experience will help develop that position.for years to come."

Part of BHS' Class of 2010, she was First Team All-Intermountain League in 2007, '08 and '09, twice the loop's MVP, Honorable Mention All-3A in 2008 and Second Team All-3A in '09.
