Only the football players and coaches of the University of Missouri and University of Minnesota savored more NCAA New Year's Day flavor than Blayke Jenkins.
The Bayfield Cheer Squad member was selected to perform, as part of the Universal Cheerleaders Association All-American Spirit Team, at halftime of the Jan. 1 Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla.
"It was AWESOME," she said, after rooting the Wolverine boys' basketball team on to victory Tuesday night.
Labeled the "Little Bowl with the Big Heart" because all proceeds from the game went to charity during its early editions, the game was previously known as the Tangerine Bowl (1947-1982), Florida Citrus Bowl (1983-1993), then has been sponsored by a succession of corporations.
A reported 48,624 spectators witnessed Jenkins and others in action, as well as the Tigers' 33-17 defeat of the Golden Gophers.
Congratulations Blayke!
