BHS dance team scores regional win

The Bayfield Wolverettes play up their win for the camera after capturing the regional poms title and trophy on Nov. 17 in Grand Junction.

With their eyes on a second state 3A poms championship, the Bayfield Wolverette dance team captured the regional title Saturday in Grand Junction.

Dancing to "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen, the team had a great performance Saturday, said Peri Milner, the team captain.

"There were a few hiccups," she said. "We were a little nervous, but overall, we did really well."

There are only four returning members from last year's state championship team, but the new members are putting a lot of work into their routine, Milner added.

This year's dance was choreographed by coaches Lori Nistler and Aimee Whitmer, with the girls providing some input into the routine when it was first being worked out.

The team practices every day after school in preparation for the Colorado Spirit Championship on Dec. 7 at the Denver Coliseum.

Even with a young team heading into state, "we have a really good chance," of taking another state title, Milner said.
