Getting May underway Tuesday at the weather-delayed High Altitude Challenge in Alamosa, Bayfield's girls were a strong second behind only the hosting Mean Moose, their 132.33 points fairly close to AHS' 148.83.
BHS' 4x200 relay took third in 1:52.87, the 4x100 fourth in 54.95 seconds, and the 800 medley sixth in 2:08.84.
Individually, Jordan Lanning and Tymbree Florian may as well have been operating as a unit with their 1-2 finish-flying 16'6.5" and 16'0", respectively-as the only long-jumpers reaching 16 feet or farther.
Lanning also took the triple jump with a 33'2" best, and owned the high jump by clearing 5'6" and winning by half a foot.
Senior Maddi Foutz easily won the pole vault, her 9'3" mark dominating the 7'9" of 2A Del Norte's Kiela Madrid, and fellow senior Amber Johnson won the 200m in 26.25 seconds.
Classmate Bridget Goddard was tenth in 29.11, but won the 800m run in 2:28.61-almost four ticks faster than AHS' Tara Sowards. Lanning prevailed by almost half a second over AHS' Jessica Archuleta-Trujillo with her 15.89 in the 100-meter hurdles, and Johnson won the 300m hurdles with her 46.20 being 3.7 seconds faster than Archuleta-Trujillo and 5.44 faster than third-place Ember Canty of Centauri.
Thrower Mikayla Barnes ended up fourth in the shot put (31'9.5") and Courtney Bayles was seventh (30'2"), but Bayles ended up sixth in the discus (95'7.25") and Barnes settled for 11th (80'10"). Both were outdone, however, by teammate Tiarra Christensen who placed third with a 99'2" maximum.
The Mean Moose won the 4x400 relay, finishing an impressive 10.66 seconds before the Wolverines crossed second in four minutes, 24.96 ticks.
Like the boys' team, Bayfield's girls will fan out this weekend to tonight's Pueblo Centennial-hosted Twilight meet inside Dutch Clark Stadium, tomorrow's Spartan Invitational hosted by Colorado Springs' Doherty High, and tomorrow's Terry Alley Invitational at PSHS.
