Its original season-opener postponed until next Thursday, Wolverine girls soccer will now begin the 2015 season with a 3A/2A Southwestern League match inside Wolverine Country Stadium versus Telluride-an early test that could have crucial postseason ramifications down the line.
Kickoff time is set for 4 p.m., and Bayfield will remain home for a 1 p.m. visit from Ridgway tomorrow.
"The Bayfield/Durango JV soccer game.has been rescheduled to next Thursday, March 19, at 4 p.m. due to field conditions," BHS activities/facilities director Rob Dean said in an e-mail, with a twist ending:
"This will officially be a scrimmage, as we cannot obtain refs for the game."
"We were originally going to play Ignacio on that day," he said in a subsequent message. "We rescheduled that game because of the shortage of refs...but needed to reschedule the Durango game."
Bayfield's home-heavy early-season also includes a 4 p.m. visit from Alamosa on Tuesday, March 17.
