BHS girls soccer takes 2 of 1st 3

Finishing a three-match homestand to start the 2015 season, the Wolverines were unable to earn Tuesday afternoon what could end up being a key victory over Alamosa.

Red-hot and still improving after shutouts of Telluride (2-0 last Friday) and Ridgway (5-0 last Saturday), the Bayfield soccer girls allowed a fourth-minute goal to AHS freshman Katelyn Gallegos and one in the 63rd to senior Tayleur Hillis in losing 2-1 to the Mean Moose. The girls dipped to 2-1 overall and in the 3A/2A Southwestern.

Alamosa improved to 2-0, 1-0 under new coach Martin Wolffe.

BHS junior Maddy Duran's 47th-minute strike, assisted on by junior Lexa Fleming, denied the guests a clean sheet and was her third goal already this spring. Senior Andrea Zelinski has two, including the season's first against Telluride.

Seniors Meaghan Mooney and Koya Maniss each have one along with Kaylee Gomez.

Finishing their pre-Spring Break portion of the schedule, Bayfield scrimmaged the 4A Durango JV yesterday afternoon at Wolverine Country Stadium, with no impact on either team's official ledger at stake.

After the respite, BHS resumes league play April 2 at Pagosa Springs, and April 7 at Center. Both matches have 4 p.m. start times.
