In a huge upset in 3A basketball action, 28-ranked Bayfield defeated Pinacle High School Friday night to advance to the Sweet 16 in 3A basketball action in Denver. Bayfield defeated the fifth-seeded Pinacle High School in Denver on their court, 75-54.

In Grand Junction, the Ignacio boys cruised to a not-so-surprising thrashing of Meeker, 74-40.

The Ignacio Bobcat girls did not fare as well, losing to Hotchkiss in a hard-fought game 63-47. The girls came out cold in the first half, playing better in the second, but it wasn't enough to defeat the Cowgirls.

Ignacio will go on to play the winner of Friday night's game between Paonio and Soroco. The game is at Grand Junction Central, but a time had not been posted as of Friday night.

Bayfield will play the winner of the Eaton-Ridge View Academy game. The game is at 1 p.m. Saturday in Denver.
