The results weren’t quite what Bayfield High School girls basketball rookie head coach Bri Simbeck envisioned, but the competition was.
Bayfield lost all three games it played at the pre-holiday Lady Scorpion Invitational in Farmington.
“We didn’t do as well as we had hoped,” Simbeck said last week.
BHS (1-3) won its opener 43-40 at Bloomfield, then lost to host Farmington, Kirtland and Shiprock at the Lady Scorpion Invitational.
“They’re good teams,” Simbeck said. “We’ll take those losses now. Shiprock is as good as any team we are going to see in league this year. It’s good to get that kind of competition this early in the season.”
Haley Clarke and Jaida Ross both were named to the all-tournament team.
BHS will play Artesia at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the first round of the three-day Rumble in the Jungle in Aztec.
