BHS to discuss students and social media

Series of presentations will cover adolescent depression, healthy relationships, substance abuse

Bayfield High School will host a series of "Conversation Cafes" about student wellness and suicide risk reduction.

The first presentation in the series is at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10 in the Performing Arts Center about iGen students and social media. Kathy Morris, director of Safe Schools, will provide information on understanding the role that social media plays in the wellness of today's students.

The "iGeneration" is made up of those born after 1995. They grew up with cell phones, had an Instagram page before starting high school, and do not remember a time before the Internet.

This is the first in a series of presentations organized by the BHS counseling department.

Future topics will include adolescent depression, healthy relationships and substance abuse.

Childcare will be provided at Bayfield Early Education Program, and includes pizza for the children.

For more information, call the high school at 884-9521.
