For the first time since 2008, the CHSAA Class 2A football playoffs will not include Bayfield High School.
Bayfield was 16th in playoff points but was bumped by The Academy, ranked 24th in playoff points, on Sunday because The Academy was an automatic qualifier from the Flatirons League.
The Wolverines finished 5-4 in 2013 and were 4-3 in the Western League, good for a fourth-place finish.
Fourth-seeded Faith Christian won the Flatirons League championship, a conference which receives two automatic bids. The Academy, which went 4-5, finished second in the league at 3-1 to earn the No. 16 seed and a matchup with top-seeded Brush in the first round.
Three of Bayfield’s Western League cohorts qualified for the playoffs. League-champion Gunnison earned the highest seed of the bunch at No. 5 and will host No. 12 Fort Lupton in the first round. No. 11 Olathe will travel to No. 6 Bennett, and No. 13 Aspen will play Faith Christian on the road this weekend.
