Biden flag destroyed, home shot at north of Durango

Sheriff’s Office says BB gun damaged window
Unknown vandals destroyed a Biden flag north of Durango, and then shot at the home.

An unknown suspect vandalized political signs at a property north of Durango, and then shot at the home with a BB gun, according to the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Chris Burke said authorities received a report around 8 a.m. Friday about the incident, which occurred overnight in the 2000 block of County Road 205.

Burke said a pro-Biden flag attached to a fence post was ripped out of the ground and then left shredded on the property.

Unknown suspects shot a BB gun at a home north of Durango after destroying a Biden flag.

The suspect, or suspects, then shot at the home with a BB gun, damaging a window.

As of Friday, the Sheriff’s Office had no suspects, Burke said.

The homeowner, Laura Lyndes, said she and her husband were getting ready for bed around midnight when they heard commotion in the living room. Her husband went out and didn’t see anything, but they discovered the damage the next morning.

“That was a pretty bold move to shoot at our house,” she said. “I just don’t know what would be next. Are you going to shoot us or the dog?”

Lyndes said she has no plans to take her political signs down.

“We’re going to keep them up,” she said.

Burke said the Sheriff’s Office responds to reports of political signs stolen or damaged on occasion, but rarely do those calls involve a home being shot at.

“Hopefully, we don’t have anymore like this,” he said.
