Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Colorado invites the community to attend the third annual suitcase party, from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Durango-La Plata County Airport, 1000 Airport Road, to benefit children in the Four Corners. The suitcase party is a one-of-a-kind event for the area, where attendees, with a packed suitcase in-hand, head to the Av Flight Durango private hangar, located east of the main terminal, to party the night away.
Guests will be treated with food, drinks and live entertainment. Festivities all lead up to the focal point of the evening, when the winner of the raffle is announced. The lucky attendee and their guest, each prepared with packed suitcases, will hop on a private jet outside the hangar, to be swept away for a weekend getaway at a surprise resort destination.
In previous years, winners spent weekends in Scottsdale, Arizona, and Las Vegas, and filled their days with golf, sightseeing, nightlife and poolside relaxing. This year’s destination is promised to be the best one yet. Hints, such as “make sure you have flip-flops and sunscreen,” should provide some insight about what to pack for the weekend. Winners this year will also be treated to accommodations at a local spa and fine dining Saturday night at an area restaurant.
Each year, the suitcase party continues to grow, and attendance this year is expected to be close to 300 people. The event will feature food catered by The Yellow Carrot, signature cocktails created by Honey House Distillery and drinks poured by the fabulous bartenders of El Moro Spirits and Tavern. Hello, Dollface will provide live music, and attendees will have chances to win door prizes and bid on silent-auction packages provided by local businesses.
While it surely will be a night to remember, people should note that proceeds from the event go to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Colorado to help the organization accomplish its mission: to provide children who face adversity with strong, enduring and professionally supported one-to-one relationships that can change a life for the better, forever.
So, I encourage everyone to pack their bags, grab their dancing shoes and join us Friday to celebrate the night with fun and laughter, and to help provide children in our community with the care and support they deserve.
