Blame climate change, not polar bears

It’s been a long time, but I just couldn’t pass up a chance to respond to Mike Sigman’s letter regarding walruses plunging to their deaths (“

It is completely obvious that Sigman has not seen the gut wrenching videos on the Netflix series “Our Planet” showing walruses having to climb steep cliffs, penguins losing their breeding grounds and polar bears finding it nearly impossible to find prey due to melting ice caps caused by a warming climate.

Due to poor eyesight, the walruses then plunge to their deaths trying to re-enter the waters below (“Walrus down: It’s time to care about pinnipeds,” April 15).

The entire segment is sickening, and should anger any normal human being and spur them to some kind of action to save the world’s most delicate ecosystems and their inhabitants. Not Sigman, who quotes the Daily Caller (which has headlines such as “Google Engineer who called Sen. Blackburn a ‘terrorist’ belongs to ‘cult’ led by former porn star”!) as refuting the obvious, claiming polar bears are the cause of walruses plunging to their deaths.

He then goes on with his never-ending diatribe about the Herald supporting left wing conspiracies.

Who will Sigman be quoting next as scientific proof of his favorite conspiracy theories? The National Enquirer? The Star?

Everyone should be doing something to curtail greenhouse gas emissions despite what our idiot president and his Republican henchmen are saying. Climate change is real, and exacerbated by human activities. Please, do something about it today!
