Blame GOP for lack of media ‘fairness’

For Mike Sigman (Herald, Oct. 23) and others who criticize the more left-leaning, progressive opinion of the Herald, if you want this changed to force the Herald to write about both sides of a coin, you need to lobby Congress to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine under the FCC.

Reagan Republicans did away with that edict which required the media to write about both sides of any political or controversial topic. Why they did away with it should be obvious, since this was time of the birth of modern GOP conservatism.

Hence we have media such as Huff Post, Alternet, etc. on the left, and Fox News, Drudge Report, etc. on the right. Without the Fairness Doctrine, the Herald is only doing what all other media are doing to print commentary in line with policies they believe are best for the well being of its readers.

After all, how could the Herald and other progressive media be in favor of:

Denial of human induced climate change; Taking health care away from millions without a viable alternative; Enacting a tax cut to increase the debt by $1.5 trillion while putting 85 percent of the money into the hands of the “1 percent;” And yes, a president who lies 70 percent of the time, as verified by the country’s leading independent fact checking organization? For the Herald, or for that matter, for anyone to publish points in favor of conservative policies and actions like these would not be fair journalism. It would be idiotic, unintelligent, irresponsible journalism.
