Kaylee Blevins hit the cross country track at the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships for the first time ever Thursday, participating in the women’s juniors event in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.
The Durangoan and Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory/Durango DEVO Sweet Elite rider finished 16th overall in the 35-rider cross country field, finishing 7 minutes, 58 seconds behing champion Alessandra Keller of Switzerland.
American rider Kate Courtney from Kentfield, Calif., finished sixth.
On Friday, Durango’s Howard Grotts will hit the course in the men’s under-23 race, and Durangoan and three-time Olympian Todd Wells will ride in Saturday’s men’s elite race.
