BLM offers tips to prevent wildfires

The Bureau of Land Management’s Grand Junction Field Office offers tips to prevent wildfires:

Practice proper vehicle maintenance, ensure tow chains are secured and a vehicle has no dragging parts, check tire pressure and properly maintain vehicle breaks. Park vehicles/trailers and off-highway vehicles away from dry grass or brush. When target shooting, place targets on dirt or gravel, switch to paper targets, bring a shovel and fire extinguisher, and report any fires by calling 911. Fireworks and incendiary ammunition are never permitted on public lands. When camping and building a fire outside a designated fire ring, clear a site perimeter of about 10 feet in diameter of all debris, including grasses and small vegetation. Use rocks or a fire pan to contain fires. Never leave a fire unattended. Put out campfires completely before leaving the campsite.
