Bobcat soccer hits wall in Telluride

If the Lady Bobcats had a tough act to follow Tuesday afternoon, it probably wasn't so much Telluride as it was themselves.

Still well-stoked from last Friday's trip to Ridgway, a 4-1 loss but one which was emphatically tied at intermission, Ignacio traveled to Down Valley Park and were taken down a notch, 5-nil, by the Lady Miners. This ended a rare and inspired four-match scoring streak.

In the Ridgway game, the opponents launched a varied 38 shots into the air, with 19 actually targeting IHS goalie Krissy Velasquez. But Ridgway didn't lead until the second half.

The full-time whistle then came in the clash's 88th minute, after IHS almost managed not one, but two goals. The Lady Bobcats managed just four total shots, three being on frame, and gained two corners. Velasquez came up with 18 combined stops.

Now 0-9 overall and in the 3A Southwestern, a hungry Ignacio heads to Center today (4 p.m. kickoff), and then returns to host Alamosa tomorrow (11 a.m.). Looking to recover from a 4-1 loss at AHS Tuesday afternoon, the Lady Vikings will enter 5-5-2 overall, 4-4-1 SWL.
