Bobcats add season-ending gridiron opponent

2017 season won't end with forfeit win over John Mall

Last week Ignacio Football was seeking one last opponent.

This week they'll have one.

Tuesday morning, IHS Athletic Director Rocky Cundiff announced the Bobcats will finish their 2017 season not only with a forfeit win over Walsenburg John Mall, but a neutral-site game this Saturday, Oct. 28, against Pueblo-based Dolores Huerta Prep.

"This is a pick-up game due to Center dropping its program in August," Cundiff said, "leaving Ignacio with an open last week."

Winless in eight tries-including a season-opening forfeit to Lyons, presently an IHS-like 3-5 overall-with just 28 points scored against a whopping 345 allowed, the Scorpions (0-4 in the 1A Santa Fe Conference) will meet the 'Cats on Saturday, Oct. 28, at Alamosa High School for a 1 p.m. kickoff.

Sharing Dolores and Ellicott as common opponents with IHS this fall, DHPH had most recently taken a 53-0 Homecoming Week beating from Ordway-based Crowley County last Friday inside CSU-Pueblo's Eddie & Neta DeRose ThunderBowl.

DHS had prevailed 39-8, Sept. 15 inside the Dolores Coliseum, while EHS won 61-0 at home on Oct. 6.

As a result of JMHS' decision to muck its final three regular-season dates, Ignacio will go into the game standing 3-5 overall, and a third-place 2-2 in the 1A Southern Peaks.

Elsewhere, Monte Vista (5-3, 2-1) will host Dolores (4-4, 1-2) in the conference's last clash for the year tonight at 7 p.m. With John Mall (0-8, 0-4) forfeiting their scheduled trip tonight to La Jara, Centauri improved to 9-0 overall and a SPC-best 4-0.
