Allowing one hundred times as many rushing yards as passing can't be good.
Not that rising Class 1A force Colorado Springs Christian really seemed to want to attack aerially Saturday evening, Sept. 29. Ignacio had no answer for the destructive Peyton Brones-Joe Dunn backfield tandem and became the Lions' third consecutive shutout victim, 49-0.
Brones, a junior, finished with 170 yards on just 10 carries and scored three touchdowns while the sophomore Dunn booked 111 yards on only four, scoring on three of those. Sophomore Grant Baker also added a TD as CSCS (4-1 overall) exceeded 300 yards rushing while throwing for just three.
Senior kicker Greg Olsen nailed all seven of his point-after kicks, and also boomed six of eight kickoffs for touchbacks, pinning the Bobcats (2-3) back at their 20-yard line each time, definitely a place IHS didn't want to be, as Colorado Springs Christian defenders logged 10.5 tackles-for-loss and intercepted two passes.
Up next for IHS will be their Southern Peaks Conference opener at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, versus Center. The Vikings dipped to 3-2 overall, 0-1 SPC, after a more-or-less expected 55-19 loss in La Jara to Centauri (4-1, 1-0). After their road game in Ignacio, Center will have two of their final three regular-season games at home.
