Perhaps the week-long wait was worth the while after all.

Visiting the Mancos Performance Center at last, with last Tuesday's scheduled trip having been postponed due to snow and road conditions, the Ignacio girls not only came to play, but apparently to devastate.

Going off for 12 of the Bobcats' 16 first-quarter points, junior guard Avionne Gomez finished with seven three-pointers and racked up a game- and season-best 30 points in barely three quarters of a 61-26 conquest. She also grabbed seven rebounds, which trailed only freshman forward Larissa Gallegos' 10.

With sophomore guard/forward Payton Lyon netting 11 points and freshman forward Makayla Howell eight, IHS led 35-16 at halftime of the 2A/1A San Juan Basin League matchup. The Bobcats held the Jays to just four points in the third quarter and six in the fourth.

Gallegos booked four points, senior forward Alejandra Lujan and sophomore guard Kiana Valdez each had three and sophomore guard Heile Pearson chipped in two.

Senior Brittney Peacock paced MHS (2-10, 1-7 SJBL) with 13 points, including 7-of-8 free-throw accuracy. Sophomore Emily Cole scored seven points, freshman Isis Jaime four and senior Emma Most two.

Up next, Ignacio (8-3, 7-0) plays in Dolores on Thursday, then makes the long trip Saturday out to Norwood.
