Bobcats rain 3s

Back from a knee injury, Adison Jones made his presence felt in the Ignacio lineup.

Jones, a senior forward for the Ignacio High School boys basketball team, scored 20 points after missing a game against Dolores last week. He helped the Bobcats (11-2, 7-0 Class 2A San Juan League) stay unbeaten in league games with a 70-54 win at Mancos on Tuesday night.

Jones also added nine rebounds and five assists.

“He’s still banged up, but we got him involved, and he played a great game,” IHS head coach Chris Valdez said.

The Bobcats hit seven 3-pointers in the game. Tucker Ward scored 16 points, and Wyatt Hayes added another 17 points to go with eight rebounds, five assists and four steals.

“Tucker did a heck of a job. He’s been a sleeper for us, and 16 points, four steals and three assists is great,” Valdez said.

Daniel Christiansen scored a game-high 22 points for the Bluejays (9-5, 4-2 SJL).

Valdez was happy to take a season sweep of Mancos to take firm control of the SJL.

“They’re the one team we looked at. They’re big and play the post well,” Valdez said of Mancos. “I really think they’re a decent team that can make it to state.”
