Bobcats reach an important goal

Two, to be exact, their first of the season

The Bobcats didn’t get a win, but the goals were good enough.

The Ignacio High School girls soccer team scored its first two goals of the season Tuesday in a 7-2 loss to Region 5 opponent Pagosa Springs in Pagosa Springs.

“We had girls crying,” IHS head coach Oscar Cosio said. “They were pretty emotional. It was a good feeling.”

Freshman Miel Diaz scored both goals on “great through balls,” Cosio said.

She used her speed and got in front of it and put it in the back of the net.

The Pirates led 2-0 at halftime, before the Bobcats got aggressive.

“We pushed forward. We pressured them. We just came out of halftime talking about pressure, pushing forward and breaking the defense down,” Cosio said.

Junior Gabs Garcia also played in her first game since her freshman year, coming in at stopper.

“Played awesome,” Cosio said. “Was really solid.”

The Pirates scored a few late goals after the Bobcats’ aggressive attack left them worn down by the end of the game, but Cosio said Ignacio (0-6, 0-6 Region 5) will look to build upon its success when it plays Alamosa at 4 p.m. Thursday in Alamosa.
