Ignacio was focused on its hitting.
On Tuesday at home against Dove Creek, the Ignacio High School baseball team practiced what it preached.
IHS (4-2) beat Dove Creek 12-2.
Iaasic Peña was the winning pitcher.
“He had a solid pitching day,” IHS head coach Lupe Huerta said. “He did a fantastic job.”
Peña threw 6 1/3 innings and allowed five hits, while striking out five. He also helped his cause with four runs scored.
Tucker Ward was 3-for-4 with three runs batted in from the Bobcats’ cleanup spot.
“We scored most of our runs the first couple of innings,” Huerta said. “We’ve been working on our hitting, and we came out and hit and played solid defense.”
Ignacio will play Thursday at Centauri in La Jara, then will open league play Saturday vs. Dolores at home.
