Bobcats win ‘ugly game’

44 runs scored in marathon game

Ignacio and Pagosa Springs put up a final score fit for a football game Thursday.

When it was all said and done and all the runs were tallied, the Ignacio Bobcats (6-4, 0-2 San Juan Basin League) had earned a 27-17 victory in a full seven-inning game at Pagosa Springs (6-6, 2-2 Intermountain League).

“It was ugly, but we won,” IHS head coach Lupe Huerta said. “Both sides had a lot of errors.”

Bo Ward pitched six innings for the Bobcats, picking up a win in the process. He struck out seven batters, and he eventually gave way to his younger brother, Tucker Ward, who closed out the seventh inning.

“We had pretty good pitching, but there were just a lot of errors. That’s not how we’ve played defense this year,” Huerta said. “We scored enough runs, but it was the kind of game where no lead was safe.”

Adison Jones hit a three-run home run for the Bobcats in the top of the fourth inning. Anthony Manzanares and both Ward brothers scored five times apiece in the game.

“We were real patient and had a lot of walks. A lot of kids had three walks each,” Huerta said. “Once we got on base, we battled there. The base stealing was really good.”

IHS hits the diamond again at 11 a.m. Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader at Dove Creek (2-10, 0-2 1A District 1).
