Boebert off on ‘liberty’

I have been a public school educator – with the Department of Defense and in two Colorado towns – for 25 years. Mostly, I've taught math, but I know a bit about civics. Lauren Boebert talks about “liberty,” but she uses that word to mean she gets to do whatever she wants. That's not liberty under the U.S. Constitution.

Recently, she said “the church is supposed to direct the government, the government is not supposed to direct the church. . . I'm tired of this separation of church junk, it's not in the Constitution.”

Really? A direct quote from the First Amendment of our Constitution states: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” This country was founded, in part, by people escaping religious persecution in Europe. And do we need to be reminded how religious fanatics – such as the Taliban – are ruining liberty around the world today (and bombed us on 9-11)?

So what “church” is Boebert talking about? Who are its leaders that she wants us to blindly follow?

She has no answers for such questions. She does not seem to understand the history or dangers of mixing religion with government. Yes, in God I trust, but not in Lauren Boebert or any one religion to rule us.

Please, vote for Adam Frisch for the U.S. House of Representatives in the Colorado 3rd Congressional District election. He understands what our Founding Fathers stood for.
