Bookmark contest entries sought

A bookmark by Bailey Freeman, inspired by a Chinese proverb, won first prize at the middle school level during the 2016 Friends of the Library bookmark contest.

Friends of the Durango Public Library and Maria’s Bookshop are seeking entries from students in elementary, middle and high school for the annual bookmark contest.

Each entry should include an original illustration related to a reading, a specific book, or a relevant quote. Artwork can be vertical or horizontal and must fit a 2- by 8-inch bookmark.

Winning entries and names of the artists will be printed on thousands of bookmarks. Maria’s will also award winners of each age category $100 gift certificates, and runner-ups will receive $50 gift certificates.

Applications are available at Maria’s Bookshop, 960 Main Ave., and must be submitted by Oct. 9 to Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.
