I know that you guys love to spend money on unnecessary projects. Think the Camino Del Rio center curb project that no doubt cost many millions, disrupted traffic for months and made almost no difference in traffic management or safety.
With respect, consider the proposed Roosa Connect project, which proposes to add .82 miles of a 10-foot-wide sidewalk/bike lane on Roosa from 9th to El Paso streets. This entire project and the cost of $1.9 million can be saved by simply installing a stairway from somewhere near the perpetually closed public restrooms in Snyder Park, below the Roosa-Avenida Del Sol intersection.
This would allow pedestrians, mostly the homeless going to Manna, access from the Snyder path up to the free food. Everyone else going north can just use the existing bike/pedestrian path that already exists in Snyder Park.
Boom, just like that $1.9 million saved.
Bet you are going to ignore this simple cost-saving suggestion and spend the money anyway.
