The Leadville Trail 100 Run presented by La Sportiva returned to Leadville this weekend, the finale of the 2023 Leadville Race Series. More than 700 runners, ranging from 18 to 72 years old and representing 49 states and 30 countries, competed in the ultra run. Two runners from Boulder, JP Giblin and Jacquie Mannhard, however, scored the wins.

Giblin shaved an hour off his 2022 second place finish time, winning the race by over 40 minutes in 17 hours, 7 minutes and 25 seconds. Luke Paulson of North Carolina finished second in 17:47:55 while Scott Traer of Massachusetts placed third (17:54:12).

Mannhard won the women’s race by an even wider margin, taking the title in 21:24:55.

Lace Hanes of Eagle finished second in 23:16:51 while Canadian Madeline Wighardt crossed third (23:32:57).

“This is my dream come true,” Mannhard said after the win.

The course challenged runners with over 15,000 feet of net elevation gain, topping out at 12,532 feet on Hope Pass.

Saturday’s warm temperatures resulted in a 44% overall finisher rate. Complete results at https://tinyurl.com/4xwcarrv

“Our 40th anniversary of the Race Across the Sky was nothing short of spectacular, inspiring, and a fair shake of grueling,” said race director Tamira Jenlink. “The athletes tackled the heat, the climbs, and miles upon miles of everything Leadville has to offer. As always, they dug deep, persevered, and ultimately rose to the challenge with all their heart, courage, and commitment.”
