An early-morning gas leak Monday at a BP well south of Ignacio was capped without incident.
BP learned of the leak from a landowner at 6:39 a.m., Brett Clanton, a BP spokesman said. There were no injuries.
“We had an engine on stand-by,” said Los Pinos Fire Protection District Deputy Chief Tom Aurnhammer. “That’s about all we did.”
The leak was in a line between two wells, he said, and was capped about noon.
As a precaution, Los Pinos asked homes within one-quarter mile of the well, located near 23808 County Road 172, be evacuated.
Six homes were found through a 911 reverse search.
The incident is under investigation, Clanton said.
