Branded Embroidery offers personal touch

OK, they don't really do branding, but Branded Embroidery can whip out everything from baby items with a name and a cute animal to heavy-duty workwear with a company logo.

Owner Shannon Story of Bayfield runs a quilting business and had dabbled in commercial embroidery, then more and more clients wanted to have bigger jobs made with more elaborate logos.

This spring, she invested in a larger embroidery machine. Baseball caps and workwear are some of her biggest-selling items, and at Christmas, she made personalized stockings in a few days for some harried holiday shoppers.

Story says she likes the business because she always has something new to work on, and it provides an outlet for her creativity. Some clients have brought her jackets from former jobs, and she works to create patches that cover the old logos and look as good as a new piece.

This weekend, members of Durango Fiesta Days royalty will wear jackets she embroidered at the National Western Stock Show in Denver. They include her daughter, Maddie, this year's Fiesta queen. She even embroiders her family's brand on her son Mitchell's roping gloves. That's just for fun - roping gloves only last for a few months because they're so thin.

Story said she is just starting to promote her business and invites customers to check out her Facebook page. She also provides a proof job to all customers to make sure it looks the way they want it, then she'll produce the final pieces.

Story also has a printing machine for T-shirts and sweatshirts. Some logos don't transfer well to embroidery, and that's when she recommends a print. She keeps some shirts, hats, hoodies and jackets in stock and can order almost any item needed, or many people bring her their own clothing and items to personalize.

Story currently works out of her home but will soon move all of her machines into a larger workroom on her family's rural Bayfield property. She can be reached at 946-8225.
