Isn’t it about time to hear directly from Gwen Lachelt in response to criticism contained in the recall petition that have brought serious and legitimate charges against her performance of her official duties?
First, widely divergent statistics have been used to describe her attendance record in commissioner business meetings, both by her supporters as well as her critics. What is her true attendance record? A simple tally by the County Clerk could end the confusion.
Second, is her position with the Western Leaders Network a paid position? The WLN website clearly presents her status as a county commissioner as her primary credential for being listed as a staff member, but do county ethics rules permit commissioners to use their position to gain outside employment, and does that employment sway decisions that a commissioner should allow only constituents to influence? Did Lachelt inform the county of this employment and did she receive approval for it?
Lastly, has the WLN paid Lachelt’s expenses to lobby on the behalf of its political positions in Washington, D.C.?
Contrary to some recent letters in the Herald, these and other concerns by recall supporters are not simply the result of misogyny or climate change denial, they are legitimate concerns that should be addressed with facts. Ms. Lachelt ... your turn.
