Bri Simbeck’s style travels OK at BHS

A pair of Wolverines hit double figures in opening-day victory at Bloomfield

Hustle plays helped the Bayfield High School girls basketball team to a win in its first game of the season.

New Wolverines’ head coach Bri Simbeck credited her team’s defensive intensity and offensive rebounding in its 43-30 win Tuesday night at Bloomfield High School.

Jessie Roukema and Jaida Ross both scored in double figures for BHS, but Simbeck wasn’t positive as to their exact point totals.

Simbeck was making her coaching debut for the school she once starred for.

“It was exciting to come back and coach,” she said.

BHS opened its season with a road win to start a stretch that will see the Wolverines play away from home for their first four contests.

“It’s definitely important for us, and it’s a big deal for us to get a win on the road,” Simbeck said. “It gives the girls a little bit of confidence.”

The Wolverines next will play Farmington at 7 p.m. Dec. 19 in the Lady Scorpion Invitational at Farmington High School.
