Bring manholes up to street level

This is an old subject, but I feel an important one to address. The majority of manholes on our city streets in Durango seem to be two to three inches below the pavement level. I have found myself actually dodging these as I drive to avoid the bump shock to my vehicle. I have given much thought to this problem and concluded that hitting these manmade potholes time and time again sends shockwaves through my suspension and truck body and potentially weakens and damages my vehicle.

But what about the shockwaves that goes through the manhole cover down through the pipe and into the sewer system? Those shockwaves surely must affect the integrity of the pipe and connections and could potentially cause cracks, leaks and breaks in the pipes. With thousands of wheels hitting these manholes, that is a lot of shockwaves.

I’m not a rocket scientist, but common sense tells me fixing these with metal rings to bring them up to pavement level could save motorists and the city of Durango thousands of dollars in repairs. Our citizens deserve smooth roads and the tourists would love it. Before spending millions of tax dollars on upcoming major projects how about fixing this one? It’s the right thing to do!
