Bring Ramos home, protect Dreamers

I am a veteran and a voter.

The Durango Herald recently reported on a local businessman Edin Ramos being deported to Honduras (Herald, May 9). His crime was coming to America to seek a better life. Ramos has a U.S. citizen wife, three U.S. citizen children and his company employees 12 local people. He has no criminal record and has been registered with and reported to ICE for over two years.

A recent article written by Nicholas Kristof, “Trump treats immigrant kids cruelly because he can” (Herald, April 27), outlined the issue of the president acting to deport “Dreamers,” innocent kids brought to the U.S. by their parents, sometimes escaping violence in their home countries.

Also, there was coverage of the curtailment of Temporary Protected Status for many people who we allowed into the USA due to natural disasters or continuing political violence in their home countries.

These actions against Ramos, the Dreamers and the TPS people are completely against the “better angels” and history of our nation. President Trump needs to read the words on the Statue of Liberty.

I ask that readers contact Sens. (Michael) Bennet and (Cory) Gardner and Rep. (Scott) Tipton to have these un-Christian and wrong-minded actions stopped. The USA is better than this! We need to get Ramos back to his family and his business and make the Dreamers and TPS people safe.
