Brookie’s leadership has made city better

Having known Dean Brookie’s leadership for nearly a decade, I proudly offer my enthusiastic endorsement for his re-election to City Council.

Sound leadership is the art of knitting current facts with the wisdom of tried experience – qualities Dean’s character embodies.

I found myself thrown into the midst of the Gold King Mine spill. As mayor, Dean rose to the occasion and went straight to work for our community. He rolled up his sleeves, dug in, and embarked on a quest for action, demonstrating compassion for our community’s concerns and his commitment to sound solutions.

Dean is an unabashed advocate for Durango’s interests and relies on credible information as the basis for our city’s decisions. Our water is cleaner, our community better informed, and economy more secure thanks to Dean’s leadership.

Understanding Dean’s diverse experience, I’m not surprised by his approach. As a landscape architect, I value Dean’s track record in community planning and sustainable development.

The challenges we face in Durango – economic development, affordable housing, viable public transit, and open space preservation – are common to Western communities. We’re fortunate to have a city councilor with diverse national experience built on innovative solutions who is equally invested as a volunteer to many community organizations in Durango.

I agree with the Herald’s March 19th editorial – Durango is indeed fortunate to have several strong candidates for the city council. One candidate deserves recognition for his proven character and judgment in office. I encourage Durango to support Dean Brookie’s continued service by reelecting him.
