Brown announcing re-election bid tomorrow

Democrat Barbara McLachlan also running for 59th district seat

J. Paul Brown, Republican state representative for Colorado's 59th District, plans to announce his re-election bid in every county in the district tomorrow. Brown and his wife, Debbie, will start at 8 a.m. at Sorrel Sky Gallery at 828 Main Ave. in Durango.

At 9:45 a.m., he will be at Dorothy's Restaurant in Pagosa Springs, followed by a 12:30 p.m. stop at the Mosely Art Center in Lake City.

His trip continues to Gunnison with a 2:15 p.m. stop at the Ol' Miner Steakhouse.

He'll visit the True Grit Restaurant at 5 p.m. in Ridgway, finishing up at 6:30 p.m. at the Brown Bear Restaurant in Silverton. Weather and road conditions may delay the plan, so he's asking supporters at each stop to be patient if he's running late.

He won the seat back in 2014 after losing his 2012 re-election bid to Mike McLachlan. McLachlan's wife, Barbara, a longtime teacher in Durango, announced her Democratic run for the seat in September.

"I am excited to be running for State Representative because I believe in a brighter future filled with opportunity for our Western Slope community," McLachlan said in a statement last fall. "I will use my experience as a teacher and educator to tackle the major issues facing our district: fighting for our fair share of school funding, working to bring more jobs and opportunity to Southwestern Colorado, and protecting our clean air and our water, which are central to our local heritage, culture and economy."
