For thirteen years, I had the high honor and privilege of working for a man by the name of George Coughlin.
Those of you who may know of me may think of me as the guy with the weed spraying business and the small farm on the Florida Mesa.
Prior to that, however, I was a vice president of Coughlin & Co. Investment Bankers and provided financing totaling over $1 billion for home loans, courthouse improvements, the airport terminal, the jail, schools, the Humane Society and many other valuable public projects. It was then that I worked for George Coughlin, who was one of the singularly most decent, kind, considerate and honest people I have ever known.
I put only three people in that category: George, my ex-father-in-law Richard P. Brown (R.I.P.) and State Representative J. Paul Brown.
On one occasion, I had helped the school district in Bailey with an election and a bond issue to be done in two phases. The first phase went fine but when it came time for us to buy the second series of bonds, interest rates had gone up a lot. There was no way that we could buy the bonds and resell them at a profit, but George wasn’t concerned. He told me to buy the bonds at the interest rate approved by the voters, knowing that we were going to take a substantial loss. But it was the right thing to do.
This is the same stuff of which J. Paul Brown is made. Anyone who questions his integrity doesn’t know him.
I have supported, campaigned for and donated to the political career of J. Paul Brown since 1988. I was appalled when he lost his house seat to Michael McLachlan, for whom I have little regard. After all, he’s a lawyer and J. Paul is not. I was delighted when McLachlan showed his true self and J. Paul was re-elected.
I continue to support J. Paul and hope that you will, too. Vote for J. Paul Brown, state representative.
