I’m voting for Erika Brown, Rick Petersen and Andrea Parmenter for the Durango School District 9-R board for three reasons.
First, the Durango Education Association and Durango Education Support Professionals Association endorses these candidates. The endorsement means these professionals respect and understand the value, integrity, trust and honesty each person brings to the table. All have children in District 9-R, have been volunteers in the schools and want to keep all children and staff members safe from COVID-19.
Second, this race has turned ugly and dangerous for our children and staff. I witnessed the booing of local pediatricians, nurses, teachers and parents who spoke in August about the safety resulting from wearing masks in schools. I was shocked by the rudeness and threats made to the new superintendent. The deaths from COVID-19 in my family and among my friends have been heartbreaking. Respecting the science and protecting our kids are more important to me than tests scores.
Third, this election has become very important even if you do not have children in school. Vote for Brown, Peterson and Parmenter because their agenda is for kids and the opposition’s is not.
