I strongly support Erika Brown, Rick Petersen and Andrea Parmenter for Durango School District 9-R’s board.
Brown and Parmenter are current board members and among other things, have been making the tough decisions needed to keep our students and teachers safe during the pandemic.
Petersen is a long-time Scout leader with a commitment to helping kids become responsible, curious and open-minded citizens.
Voters should know that Brown, Petersen and Parmenter are running as individuals against a coordinated slate of candidates who appear to be supported by the same group of people who disrupted recent board meetings with their refusal to mask and their uncivil behavior.
One hopes that in days to come, these slate candidates will share their honest opinions on such issues as vaccinations, mask mandates and whether they believe in education-oriented conspiracy theories. The voters have a right to know.
