Bruce’s Last Train

Ride will be complimentary
A special charter Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad train will go to the Cascade Canyon Wye as a fundraiser to help several nonprofits popular with Bruce Anderson at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

A generous donor has made it possible for Bruce Anderson’s friends and family to join his memorial train ride free.

Anderson was a popular radio announcer who was known for his generosity to area nonprofits, including Big Brothers Big Sisters of La Plata County, United Way of Southwest Colorado and the Boys & Girls Club of La Plata County. He died Aug. 6 from complications of a stroke suffered three years earlier, loved trains, so the trip is the ideal way to remember him.

The special charter Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad train is traveling to the Cascade Canyon Wye on Sunday. Anderson’s family is planning to provide one of his favorite local foods, Serious Texas Bar-B-Q’s tacos, and attendees will share stories and memories at the wye before returning to Durango late afternoon.

And while the tickets are free, it will be possible for those along for the ride to make contributions to one (or several) of Anderson’s favorite charities helping kids, said Nancy Workman, a friend who helped take care of Anderson and his affairs after his stroke.

Reservations are required, as seating is limited.
