A burglary Sunday night resulted in hundreds of dollars in high-end watches stolen from Brown’s Sport Shoe, and even more in damages to the downtown Durango store’s front door.

Durango Police Cmdr. Rita Warfield said officers responded to the shop at 870 Main Ave. on Monday morning after a store manager noticed the door had been broken into the night before and notified authorities.

Brown’s Sport Shoe was broken into Sunday night. The burglary resulted in about $600 worth of merchandise being stolen and about $700 worth of damage to the front door.

It appeared an unknown suspect broke the dead-bolted front door, causing about $700 in damages. Then, the person stole several Timex watches estimated at around $600, Warfield said.

Warfield said the case is under investigation. As of Monday afternoon, no suspects had been identified. There was no video surveillance at the store, she said, but officers are looking at adjacent buildings’ security cameras, taking fingerprints and looking for other clues.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call non-emergency dispatch at 385-2900.

A call to a representative with Brown’s Sport Shoe was not immediately returned Monday afternoon.
