Buses to Grand Junction canceled Monday, Tuesday

Road Runner bus service between Durango and Grand Junction has been canceled for Monday and Tuesday.

There will be no Road Runner Stage Lines bus service between Durango and Grand Junction on Monday and Tuesday. Service is expected to be restored Wednesday.

The cancellation will halt service to Cortez, Telluride, Montrose and all the smaller communities along the route.

Both buses that serve the route have mechanical problems that forced the shutdown, Peter Tregillus the program director for the Southern Ute Community Action Programs, said Monday. SUCAP runs the bus service in partnership with Colorado Department of Transportation and Greyhound. The route began operating in July.

The problems started Sunday when a bus made it to Cortez and then broke down.

“We would not put the buses on the road with the nature of problems we had,” Tregillus said.

He expects the cancellation to impact between 20 to 30 people, and those travelers will receive refunds.

“We are indeed leaving some passengers stranded,” Tregillus said.

Riders can check the status of service by going to roadrunnerstagelines.com, or by calling (970) 553-0389.
