Physical therapist receives recertification

Dave Rakita, co-owner of Rakita Tomsic Physical Therapy and a competitive triathlete, passed the Orthopedic Clinical Specialist certification examination for the third time.

The certification was established by the American Physical Therapy Association to provide formal recognition for physical therapists with advanced clinical knowledge, experience and skills in a special area of practice and to assist consumers and the health-care community in identifying them.

Human resource managers to meet

The Durango Area Human Resource Managers will host a luncheon from noon to 1:15 p.m. Wednesday at Durango Space, 1221 Main Ave., with a program called “Finance for Non-Finance Managers.”

Tafoya Barrett will explain how to be a more effective business partner by increasing one’s understanding of financial statements, budgets, general ledger accounts and more.

The cost is $12 for members or $14 for nonmembers and includes a box lunch provided by Hot Tomatoes. Choices include a gluten-free Cobb salad, roast turkey sandwich, honey-smoked ham sandwich, hummus garden wrap or Thai wrap.

Business district to host gathering

The Durango Business Improvement District will host Coffee & Conversation from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Thursday at Steaming Bean, 915 Main Ave., and from 8:30 to 10 a.m. July 25 at Durango Doughworks, 2653 Main Ave.

The program is an effort to gather new ideas from constituents, learn about challenges and allow new Executive Director Tim Walsworth to get to know people who make up BID.

BID constituents and residents are invited to drop in and have a complimentary cup of coffee.

Colorado State Patrol accepting applications

The Colorado State Patrol is accepting applications for the position of cadet.

A Colorado State Patrol cadet will transition into a state trooper after a 26-week academy that will begin in March 2014 in Golden. While in the academy, a cadet will be trained in all aspects of law enforcement and will graduate as a POST (Police Officer Standards and Training)-certified peace officer.

No experience is required. The deadline for applications is July 31.
