Region 9 receives economic grant

Sen. Michael Bennet announced that the Region 9 Economic Development District of Southwestern Colorado received a $54,900 competitive Partnership Planning Grant from the Economic Development Administration to fund planning and technical assistance to implement the region’s economic-development strategy.

The district includes Archuleta, Dolores, La Plata, Montezuma and San Juan counties and is a nonprofit public-private partnership that promotes and coordinates economic-development efforts throughout the southwestern region of the state. The Economic Development Administration is a program of the U.S. Department of Commerce that works to promote economic development by promoting innovation and regional collaboration. This project will be matched with money from local governments.

Mumbling Marmot announces new tutor

Roger O’Keefe has joined Mumbling Marmot Tutoring as a tutor specializing in kindergarten to sixth-grade study skills, cognitive skills, academic coaching, Spanish, reading, writing, spelling, vocabulary, phonics, literature and ESL.

O’Keefe has a master’s degree in educational administration and has been a kindergarten to 12th-grade administrator, a consultant with the California State Department of Education and is currently an instructor in the Fort Lewis College Continuing Education Department. He is bilingual (English/Spanish) and holds a life-time California teaching certification for preschool through adult.

Mumbling Marmot provides private tutoring services in reading, writing and math; test preparation; learning differences; languages; economics; study skills; gifted and talented enrichment; and cognitive training.

El Moro announces front-of-house staff

Dave Woodruff has been named general manager of the new El Moro Spirits and Tavern, 945 Main Ave., with Sarah Moxam, Meredith Saver, Kurt Shingledecker and Mari Valez Sentner hired as managers-on-duty.

Woodruff has been part of El Moro’s parent LLC, Peak Brewing Co., since 2006, most recently serving as assistant general manager of Steamworks Brewing Co.

Woodruff, a Missouri native, oversees this manager team supervising the front-of-house:

Moxam, originally from Michigan, worked for Steamworks for six years.

Saver, originally from Chicago, has worked at East by Southwest and within management with Cosmopolitan.

Shingledecker, who has been in the restaurant business for more than 20 years, worked at the DoubleTree and at Durango Mountain Resort.

Sentner, a Colorado native who has been involved in restaurants since age 16, has worked for Cosmopolitan and Seasons Rotisserie & Grill.
