Life coach, Spanish teacher opens office

Liza Tregillus, a play therapist and a former Spanish professor at Fort Lewis College, will host an open house from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at her new office, 701 Seventh St., in the alley next to the Clay Room.

Tregillus will offer information about parent/youth coaching as well as her new small-group conversational Spanish classes. She works with youths of all ages and young adults who do not need therapy but can benefit from a positive life-coaching experience.

Tregillus also will offer two small “Happy Hour Spanish” classes for people 21 and older.

Kiwanis Club donates to Boys and Girls Club

The Kiwanis Club of Durango recently donated $4,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of La Plata County.

The Boys & Girls Club is one of the many local organizations the Kiwanis Club supports through proceeds from its annual Pancake Day, which will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the La Plata County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall, 2500 Main Ave. Tickets are $10. Tickets can be purchased at the door or from any Kiwanis Club member.

Big Brothers Big Sisters receives donations

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Colorado announces donations from Mercury and Alpine Bank.

Mercury will participate in BBBS’ Adopt-A-School program for the upcoming school year with a $5,000 grant. It will help continue BBBS’s Study Connection program, a school-based after-school mentoring program in which mentors are matched with children to improve the students’ academic achievement, school attendance and self-esteem.

Alpine Bank has contributed $2,500 for the Adopt-A-Match program, BBBS’ original model in which “Littles” between the ages of 6 and 17 are matched with “Bigs” and spend an average of two to three hours a week together. BBBS staff are available to support each match. Alpine Bank’s donation will cover the cost of supporting two matches for a year.

Health department announces addition

San Juan Basin Health Department, 281 Sawyer Drive, announces the addition of Marybeth Paletta to its Care Coordination Services team.

Paletta has been a practicing nurse in the Durango area for 16 years. As a nurse care coordinator, she will be working with families who have children with special health-care needs. Paletta also will be a resource for local community agencies and health-care providers.

Picture-framing shop moves to new location

Four Corners Framed Art announces its new location at 39722 U.S. Highway 160.

Owner Gregg Cuthbert has a background in custom framing.

The art gallery and custom picture framing business is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Saturday. It offers custom framing, glass replacement, restoration and shadow boxes.

Hair After announces new cosmetologist

The Hair After, 1316 Main Ave., announces the addition of Marissa Clauson.

Clauson is a recent graduate and now is a licensed cosmetologist. She formerly worked at Jeanne’s Hair Co. in Bayfield.

The Hair After is in the Crossroads Center next to AutoZone.
