Regional Organizations announces new hire
The Colorado Association of Regional Organizations announces the hiring of Devi Currin as its first coordinator.
Currin is currently a part-time accountant at the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments in Colorado Springs. She has 13 years of business administration experience and will be taking on the duties of CARO along with her current position. CARO was organized in 2008. The association assists the regional organizations in strengthening their capabilities to serve their local government members; provides a forum for the regular exchange of information and ideas; and educates governmental entities, public and private organizations and the public about the services and functions of regional organizations. Currin resides with her family in Peyton, Colo.

Loan committee elects members
Jon Callender and Amy Long have joined the Region 9 Economic Development District’s Business Loan Fund Committee.
Callender has broad experience in academia, consulting, community development and business. Callender provides geological and environmental consulting through his business, Callender Enterprises. A Montezuma County resident since 2005, he received his Ph.D. from Harvard University. He most recently served on the Montezuma Planning Commission.
Long moved to Durango in 2005 and is a business owner, purchasing Schluter Floral in 2005 and April’s Garden in 2008. She serves on and is president of the board of Local First.
The committee is composed of two representatives from each of the five counties in southwest Colorado, plus two at-large positions with at least one person with loan-making experience, one person with an accounting background, one person with a real estate background and two with a background in business.

Economic association announces new hire
The Montezuma Community Economic Development Association announces the hiring of Chris Burkett for a new, part-time economic development position.
Burkett will be responsible for forwarding economic development projects, referring businesses to available resources, navigating the governmental processes and identifying bottlenecks to improve those processes and procedures. A Montezuma resident since 1978, Burkett has a working understanding of area needs and positive working relationships with governments, businesses and organizations. He is the former Cortez Parks & Recreation director and currently contracts as a grants administrator. The association is a public/private partnership that promotes and coordinates economic development efforts in Montezuma County.

The Montezuma Community Economic Development Association announces these new officers for the next year: Suzy Meyer will serve as chairwoman; Bern Heath as vice chairman; Larry McGee, treasurer; and Susan Carver, secretary.
Meyer is the former editor of The Cortez Journal and serves as an at-large member. Heath is chief executive officer of Axis Heath Systems and a business member. McGee is president of Citizens State Bank of Cortez and a business member. Carver is Montezuma County planning director and a government member. The association is a public/private partnership that promotes and coordinates economic development efforts in Montezuma County.

Rakita Tomsic announces new hire
Rakita Tomsic Physical Therapy announces the addition of Wendy Pollak to its physical therapy team.
Pollak worked for 12 years at Mercy Regional Medical Center’s outpatient physical therapy department. She then spent the next seven years working as a physical therapist in hospitals and clinics on the West Coast from California to Washington state, and then going to Hawaii before returning to her Durango home. Pollack graduated from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque with a degree in biochemistry in 1988 and received her master’s degree in physical therapy from Duke University, Durham, N.C., in 1992.
She has attended more than 30 continuing education courses since 1992. She was an instructor at the Fort Lewis College Department of Exercise Physiology from 2000-2002 and has delivered multiple presentations to the general community on a variety of rehabilitation topics.
